Visiting new places can be very fun and yet challenging. This is especially for western people, who are visiting countries in South East Asia. And this applies to Thailand.

Everyone agrees that Thailand is such an amazing place to visit. It is rich in culture, while it boasts panoramic views of natural places, beaches, forests, paddy fields, etc. There is nothing wrong in visiting one of the most beautiful countries in South East Asia.

Still, there are some places to avoid, especially in small cities or villages. So, if you are planning to visit Thailand this summer, here are some places to avoid, for security and safety reasons.

Visiting The Markets

The markets in Thailand are interesting and great place to buy souvenirs and unique local products, as they always have very ‘unusual’ products which are not available in other countries.

Anyway, it is much easier for tourists from South East Asian countries to shop around, as they have a similar appearance with most Thailand citizens. But, some sellers in the markets always charge higher prices for tourists, from most western countries.

However, it doesn’t mean that your shouldn’t go shopping. It is always best to have a native guide, so he or she will make a bargain.

Enjoying The Night Life

Night life entertainment never loses its appeal. But, some tourists from Europe or US think that they can just enjoy similar kinds of ‘entertainment’, especially in cities like Pattaya or Bangkok.

Though there are nice bars and café’s on those cities, there are also sex shows in some bars, which always try to get foreigners to attend these places. Well, the ‘show’ can be interesting for some males. But, it is important to be aware of some bars which charge very high for ‘unusual transactions’.

Even worse, there are times when a girl from the bar keeps following a foreigner (a male, of course) to offer a one-night-stand. Even when the foreigner says no, she will threaten to get her brother or uncle to kill him!

Stay calm and ignore such thing. Keep in mind that it is always better to find bars with good reputation, as it is mostly shown on their social media account.

Hiring Taxis or Tuk-tuk

In this case, backpackers or tourist need to ensure that they have already been familiar with some information about hiring a taxi or tuk-tuk, as taxi’s will claim that there meter is not working.

In this case close the door and go to the next taxi until you find one that turns on the meter. Tuk-tuk are generally more expensive, especially for westerners.

It is true that public transportations there are not as comfortable as those in Europe or the US. But, tourists can save much money by taking public transportations and a little time to walk around the downtown.

Walking Along the Downtown area or Markets Without Bringing Passports

Corrupt policemen are still very common here. So it is always recommended to bring a copy of your passports along or other ID. Always lock it away in the hotel safe, never leave it in a hotel room.

It is easy for the police to notice backpackers, even if they are also Asian people.

Wrapping Up

Finally, don’t let those aforementioned points stop you from visiting this magnificent country. There are still lots of exciting spots to enjoy, even if you have limited budget. Prices of foods in street vendors are very cheap and they are mostly delectable, particularly for authentic Thai cuisines.
