For some people, traveling solo is much more challenging. It is the best form of freedom for people who love adventure and explore new places, cultures and things.
There are certain people who don’t agree with this opinion because they consider the high risk that may attach. As a matter of fact, there are risks for everything. It doesn’t mean that traveling by group is not risky at all.
At the same time, traveling solo can be risky, though the risks can be reduced with some simple tips. Traveling solo doesn’t mean to be a lonely trip. But, it is always recommended to find out about some mistakes to avoid when traveling solo.
Take The Importance of Keeping Important Document for Granted
If you’ve watched one popular movie by Rowan Atkinson titled “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”, you might have laughed on this character’s carelessness in leaving his passport and other important documents at the top of the public phone booth.
But, you should admit that there are times when we can be as careless as he was. Bringing a small bag everywhere is very important, though it shouldn’t be too small.
At least, bring an average bag. Whether it is a shoulder bag or sling bag to keep the document safe. If it is important, you can just leave it in the safest place in the hotel.
Isolating Yourself from The Closest Family Members or Friends
Traveling alone can be very risky. You need to inform them about the exact countries that you visit and send pictures.
So it will be easy for you to ask for help during your solo travel.
Don’t Drink Too Much
As the title suggests, don’t drink too much. If you are not in control of your facilities, you become a target for thieves.
Bringing Too Many Stuff
It is fine to bring your laptop when you visit a café or a park. But, stay alert because you might attract the attention. The main problem visiting countries is the seemingly endless high rate of crimes, particularly among tourists.
It is also recommended to bring only important stuff when you are about to visit crowded places like flea markets or amusement parks during the holiday or weekends.
Following Rules And Regulations, Particularly About Cultures
There are countries where their people apply strong regulations and rules based on their culture, like wearing burqa, eating halal foods, etc.
Learn a lot about the countries that you have listed on your destination list. Avoid doing things which may contribute to people’s anger. Again, this is particularly on third world countries.
Figure Out What You Want To Do
Before you go on your trip, decide what you want to do. These might be things that interest you, that not everyone will appreciate like museum or diving.
Stay in A Reputable Hotel
Choosing a hotel as your main accommodation is always recommended, particularly if this is your first solo-travel. You can rest assured that you are safe and comfortable during your stay.
It may be a little bit more expensive than local hotels or hostels that don’t guarantee your safety.
Finally, all in all, traveling solo can be much more memorable than traveling with groups. You can go anywhere you want, as it will be impossible to do it when you join a travel tour. All you have to do is to be careful and applying those aforementioned advice to keep you safe and comfortable on your solo travel.
