Long distance travels can be fairly hectic and boring at the best of times. There are some tips which can turn a long train journey to a more comfortably trip especially if traveling by train in a huge country like Vietnam. For any kind of travel, there are some do’s and don’ts which help travellers to have a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Trains are an important means of transportation and hundreds of thousands of people travel on trains on daily basis. Traveling for a long distance in a compacted room is not an easy job, it’s at times can be torture but we can make it a little interesting by using some of our tips and advice.

Heres a few tips to have more comfortably long-distance train travel.

Book You Seat Earlier

If you know in advance that you will be using the train for traveling from A to B, you should consider reserving your seat as soon as possible. There are some people who want a window seat, seat with plugs, corner seats and so on.

In order to get the seat or sleeper if it’s an overnight train of your desire, get your seat confirmed first so that rest of the journey can be pleasant.

Don’t Forget to Bring Toilet Paper and Wipes

There are hundreds of people traveling on the train in which you are going to be traveling with and all of them use the same bathroom. The odds are that there will be no toilet paper in the washroom, so bring some toilet paper to avoid any inconvenience.

Wet wipes can be used to clean your hands and face if you don’t want to use train’s washroom soap.

Are You Going to be Traveling over night? Get A Sleeper

If your train journey consists of more than one night then it is recommended to have a sleeper rather than the coach. After traveling 18 to 20 hours you will be fairly tired, do not put yourself in to discomfort.

A sleeper can be the best option in this  scenario so you can lay down and sleep comfortably.

Have Some Food with You

It is true that trains have dining cars but most people complaint about the food they serve. Sometimes it is unhealthy and expensive but regardless of these two factors. If you have some snacks or some thing to eat with you so you can enjoy it whenever you want.

Don’t be dependent on anyone and put some light and healthy food in your bag.

Get Some Items to Keep Yourself Busy

Even if you are traveling with a group, you will get bored after 4 to 5 hours and there will be nothing to talk about. Having a newspaper, novel or a laptop will keep you busy throughout the journey.

If you have the laptop, tablet or mobile phone, make sure it is fully charged before boarding. Must trains don’t have Wi-Fi or plugs so it useful to have a PowerBank and download what ever you want to watch on you devices.

Get Some Information About the Stations Where Train Stops

Before traveling, one must have enough information about the stations where the train stops for short time. When the train stops at some station, rather than sitting in train take the advantage of respite stops.

Bring a blanket

Bring your own blanket. Sometimes in the sleeper train the sheets can be dirty. Plus there are fairly light and it can get fairly cold at night.
