Time To Go Trekking

It started off with use been with us being collected at our hotel at 1:30 am. Then just under a 2-hour drive to the base of Mount Batur. Arriving at around 3:20 am.

We stocked up on water and then started the trek up Mount Batur following our guide. In the beginning, it was a simple trek with only a winding road on an incline for around 25 minutes.

It’s also such an interesting experience to do a trek in the complete dark, with no light to see the path except the one coming from my flashlight.

As we’re walking along, the landscape starts to change with the roads being replaced by a jungle path. Then replaced by rocky territory which is a mix of walking and climbing up the rocky terrain.

This part of the trek took us about 50 minutes, depending on how many breaks we took.

It had been an hour and a half and we had made it to the “point”. A man-made little cabin just ten minutes from the peak. It’s where most hikers take a break before starting the toughest part of the ascent.

We arrived, then our guide shook my hand and said congratulations, we sat down in a cabin and got a cup of drinking chocolate. Now, we wait for the sunrise.

Time To Go Back

After over an hour at the top, our guide informs us that it’s time to walk around the top of the volcano and then work our way back down.

Our guide showed us a stream coming from the mountains and where the monkeys lived. As we were making our way down we ran into a group of monkeys who were hanging out on the path.

We continued the descent the views just got more and more stunning. And when we arrived back at the starting point. Then, we had breakfast and arrived back at our hotel at 12 pm.
